Drivers are mainly required for non-driving tasks involved with business and regulations. Driving is only a very small amount of the work.
Wouldn't then the future be auto driving trucks with a human mechanic/assistant for administrative tasks ?
Or even have the truck pickup an employee for checkpoints and delivery for instance, and drop it back somewhere afterwards.
