LTL is best for small businesses but not really individuals. I used to work claims for an LTL company and hated to see people get screwed when their washing machine or something showed up damaged, and we couldn't fully reimburse them due to the tariff with the shipper and because they didn't note exceptions.

Always always always do a complete inspection of your delivery when you receive it, even if the driver says he doesn't have time. If you don't note damage right away, your chances of getting reimbursed are slim.
