Whats the deal with those dogs hitting the buttons? Are they really expressing complex thoughts?

I think the term is tame, you can make almost any animal tame. But thats just one animal, dogs come hard wired for it.

Im curious too, because I think the argument for not punishing them later is if you catch them in the act the dog knows "Oh thats why they are mad" where as later they might be unsure of why you are angry. But I'd assume its something with object permanence or memory. There would seem like the dog would remember what it did for some length of time.
