You should really think about getting involved in larger organizations and tournament opportunities. I just can't see the quality of a state judo tournament to be on par with the rest of the martial arts world. Speaking of which, since you live in chicago I'd suggest the AKA Grand Nationals http://akagrands.com/ which take place at Chicago's Downtown Hyatt. You'll find some of the best competitors in the world and possibly pick up a team to sponsor you and pay for your trips and gear.
