Being a published author and a publisher (no self publishing), I do not necessarily agree with your list as it leaves out a step or two I've found very useful: When you think you're done, write the whole thing from scratch again. In my experience, this step has never ever failed to produce a significantly better work. 6 edits? Sure. Then you're ready to write. So on my list, point 10 would be to go back to step one, and then submit it without further editing at this stage. That's right, write it again. Don't edit it to death before you submit. The person is, after all, an editor. If you're writing fiction, I would strongly suggest you also add yet another step: Read the whole thing out aloud. To yourself, and to others. It will immediately tell whether there is s problem with the flow of the language, or the story itself. It will also put you on the track to one of the most important steps on the way to becoming a writer: Killing your darlings. You will notice that stuff thought great doesn't ignite the listener. On the other hand you will discover qualities in your writing you were perhaps not aware of. Getting a reaction where you did not expect any. But first and last: Write, write, write every moment you can. Sounds like a lot of work? It is is a lot of work. That's what writing is. Good luck, you'll probably not be rich, but you will be rewarded. Seeing your book in the library, in the shelf of a bookstore, or best of all: In the hands of a reader.

HE FORGOT TO MENTION THAT IN NORWAY CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS ARE PREFERRED TO HAVE THE SAME SOCIO-ECONOMICAL BACKGROUND AS THE INMATES. THIS GUY IS BASICALLY JUST A FELON WITH KEYS. AND OPINIONS. LOTS OF OPINIONS. Og til klovnen i uniformen der: Hørt om tjenestemannsloven?

Depends. I've seen people come up with fully crafted first novels, but those are more exceptions to the rule. And yes, non-fiction is different, or rather hard in a different way. All those fucking facts that you have to get right. That's how people become fiction-writers.

With no info on where you've been, this is pretty useless.
