Dearest Sir Ian,

Even if you don’t respond to any of my questions (sorry if they're too wordy!), thanks for doing this! I’m really looking forward to seeing Mr. Holmes soon.

  1. Do you have any favorite scenes or episodes from either series of Vicious? It is one of very few TV comedies in recent memory to make me truly belly laugh, and I've enjoyed it (especially the back-and-forth between Freddie and Stuart) immensely.

  2. How was your experience of losing your Pride virginity last month? I live in NYC (in case you want a new NYC BFF), and was so sad that I was traveling and missed cheering you on at NYC Pride!

  3. You’ve spoken in the past about how coming out made you a better actor, and wished you came out earlier. I empathize completely. I myself came out at 30 and periodically wish I too had been able to do so sooner. As an outspoken activist yourself, do you have any thoughts as to how we can continue the forward momentum towards LGBTQ acceptance (rather than tolerance), to help our current and future fellow gays avoid that same feeling?

Thanks so kindly for both of your responses, and forgive me for mistakenly re-virginizing you! You aren't the only one smiling as you reply.

How were the openly gay/bisexual Olympians (particularly the men) generally treated, including by other athletes? This year’s Winter Olympics had so many more “out” athletes, so I’m curious if the social environment was generally positive, negative, or just neutral given their presence.

Hi Josh, love the show.

It's a cheesy question (not winter cheesy, whatever that is), but what would be your favorite episode or storyline arc thus far? I have quite a few episodes overall, but just to highlight two I loved: (SPOILERS AHEAD FOR OTHERS: Champagne with Josh + Claire post-abortion, and Scroggin' with Josh and Mom post-Ginger's suicide)

As an aside: I think you and your team did an amazing job with Ben's storyline with whole cerebral aneurysm thing. It honestly gave me flashbacks to my own joyous (he says facetiously) hospital times.

Hi Josh Thomas! Thanks for doing this AMA! I've only known of you and Please Like Me for a short while, with my being American and all, but I've become a big fan. Keep up the great work!

  • For me, one of the greatest things about Please Like Me is that you deal with a lot of serious and important life events (e.g., mental health, attempted suicide) with both sincerity and levity. It's so, so important, especially in places (like here in the US) where we just avoid talking about mental health. Are there any topics you've intentionally avoided including in the show?
  • Many of the TV shows out there portray gay male characters using the stereotypic notion of what it means to be gay, but you and your show don't really do that at all. Have you had any pushback or praise from folks for showing that there's diversity among us gays?
  • I looked for tickets as soon as I heard you were in NYC, but noticed you're not doing any comedy shows while here talking about mental health and the show. Any possible future plans to come back and woo us Americans? Your public awaits.
