Just adding my thoughts here. I think it's difficult to understand the response to 9/11 when most of today's new adults were between 0-3 years old at the time and have no memory. I think this applies to all events in history -- if you weren't there, you can understand the feelings, but it's still harder to empathize. However, despite being almost 20 years removed, students today (and perhaps all students since then) don't learn about 9/11 in school or anything about the War on Terror. Many of us only see the outcomes of the WoT through the news and think about how pointless it seems, why it's gone on so long, without understanding more fully why it happened in the first place.
