My wife is a teacher, and this is exactly why both she and I really can't stand her teacher's union and the misapplication of tenure for non-collegiate instructors.

When the budget is about to be voted down, the district must threaten to take away school buses instead of decrease administrator teacher salaries ($350,000 for a superintendent? $138,000 for a high school english teacher who works roughly 154 days/year? 122 districts in two counties? Long Island, NY) And then the union "politely urges" my wife to donate to them so they can lobby politicians she doesn't approve of.

So yeah, teacher unions. Probably could manage their power a bit better. The taxes are killing us.

EDIT 2: NY state is attempting to implement a teacher evaluation system, which the unions are calling completely unfair, which I actually agree with...but something has to be done. I'm not sure any kind of evaluation system will be fair across large socioeconomic regions.

EDIT 3: I'm only talking about my local area, people. If you want to be pissed off at me because my statement isn't reflecting Idaho, sorry, but I can't really comment. At least understand why some people in different parts of the country don't support teacher unions.
