I'd actually consider the show family friendly (it's not obscene at all) and a good thing to show your kids. Here's why...

  • First they'll watch it and laugh at it... "hahaha, it's a bunch of men dressed like women".
  • Once their brain gets past the weird factor of that, they'll still be laughing at the show... "hahaha, it's a bunch of drag queens fighting with each other."
  • And now that they're glued to the TV, they'll take in the stories of the challenges that the contestants have faced in their lives and such... "whoa, these are actually real people, cool"
  • Then the show will get back to its over-the-topness, and they'll be laughing again.
  • Next thing you know they're watching it week after week and they've picked which contestant they want to win.

And that's how you raise non-homophobic kids.

You can operate a ham radio station without a license, as long as you're supervised by a licensed ham.

Years ago (early 2000s) the ham club I was involved with arranged a contact with the space station, and we had a bunch of school kids asking the astronauts questions. Good times. I still have a NA1ISS QSL card somewhere.
