In the past, I was thinking it's people's choice to spend a fortune for a loot box game. But now, I don't accept this justification. Stimulating gambling feelings doesn't seem innocent anymore.

May be, we should consider original magic gathering cards as gambling, too. Why not?

Personally, I feel sad when people spend 1000$ just for getting a single card/item etc. Besides, they still may not get what they wanted.

Edit : Some people who replied emphasize that people have to learn how to control themselves, take responsibility of their actions and accept the outcomes of their behaviors like an adult. Banning is not a good approach.

This is a serious argument. This argument has a solid ground.

Then, we should question why gambling is illegal, why euthanasia is illegal etc. (there are some countries that euthanasia is legal such as Netherland). Should we respect for people's this kind of choice? I think, this is a part of a bigger discussion.

Where is the point that others (or government) should interfere? Or, Is there any point that gives permission to others to interfere for personal choices? Questions... More questions...

Edit: grammar

Neitherland - > Netherland :)

Hi Dr. Varol, I am Turkish student studying PhD on life long learning/ adult education at Penn State.

Personally, I can't see any tangible reason for imagining a better Turkey in the long run. Whoever gets power uses it for suppressing other ideologies. Courts have been mostly biased. I don't know any time period that there is no suppressed community by the government throughout Turkey Republic history. I don't see any reason for changing this intolerant mind set in Turkey. This is deeply embedded in almost all parts of the the society. Firstly dehumanization comes, and then persecution becomes acceptable treatment. So, society see persecution as something like pest control.

On the other hand, I also know that I may not read dynamics of the Turkey well, my perception can be deficient, and my ideas may be wrong. (I have failed in reading Turkey before, too) That's why, I would love hear your perspective.

Do you see any reason for a serious positive change in the long run? For your point of view, is there a tangible reason to hope for a Turkey that values are respected, minorities are well behaved, courts are as fair as in the US, basic human rights are protected?

Thanks

You have a good point. I don't know MtG mechanics very much. If the amount of money that you can spend has a reasonable boundary, It sounds acceptable to me. This is the main criteria for me. Otherwise, it is open ended just like gambling.

Actually, it think, Heartstone is also not the greediest game in the market. I love that in HS, you can craft even a legendary card. So, after opening 250 packs, if you still don't get a specific card, you can craft it. This prevents players from chasing the "white whale" card and spending money.

There are many games that you don't have an option to obtain a card other than buying packs and trusting RNG. This is a serious sign of gambling.
