What was your defense strategy at trial? What worked, what didn't work? What did your attorney tell you when you first met, and what did he do that you like or didn't like as the trial went on?

Just jumping in here. I am also a lawyer. You do not need to "afford" an employment attorney. You do not pay them. They get paid if you win, and out of the damages you are awarded. Further, most federal employment statutes include attorney's fees provisions that would require the employer to pay for your attorney if you win.
If you lose, you still should not have to pay out of pocket for anything.
