Do you ever consciously (or unconsciously) find yourself talking in your old voice? Has your inner voice changed along with your outer voice?

It’s very interesting about the changes we can become used to (self imposed and out with our control) and how they permeate our unconscious. I’ve heard that people who learn other languages can start to dream in their non native tongue, which must be very disorientating.

Thanks again for your reply, it’s very appreciated especially as you’re probably swamped by (hopefully) nice questions.

I suppose it’s not uncommon for people to modulate and alter speech patterns and even tones depending on the company they are in at the time.

Some people seem more prone to it than others. For example I tend to pick up turns of phrase, or accent quirks if I’m around folks with an accent different from mine for long enough.

The problem comes, as you suggest, when it plays havoc with your own mental health and sense of identity. In your own situation, it would seem that that modulation is part of a wider suppression of who you are whilst around your parents, which in itself is bound to only negatively impact your mental health.
