If they are bad palpitations (i.e. an arrhythmia) your defib will likely be able to fix them for you before it shocks you. Not sure if your doc explained it fully but ICDs have a built-in feature where they can try to get your heart out of palpitations with little electrical impulses before the all out shock that it gives you when you go into arrest.

P.S. I am a medical student who is keen to pursue electrophysiology (arrhythmia's) and I find your condition to be fascinating both socially and medically. Thanks so much for this AMA - absolutely amazing!

Thank you for participating in research trials for cancer therapy - every patient makes a difference. How does it feel to think that you could be contributing to a cure for cancer but that you might not be around to benefit from that treatment yourself?
