Local business owners around Roslindale have really felt a decease in foot traffic due to an aggressive rash of ticketing this past month. Store owners observe that the officers of the Boston Department of Transportation (BDT) stopping by seem to justify their ticketing citing increasingly minor offenses (e.g. 2-3" too far into the street - largely due to snow buildup).

My questions are: Have you heard anything about this? Do you know why the BDT is ramping up its ticket collection in particular areas? What do you recommend local business owners / residents do about it?

Thanks for responding. I liked your point about the unused lots. That's something I hadn't considered. Also, I bet weather does play a role.

As for bringing more patrons to the area, I just don't foresee any realistic extension of the Orange line. Where would they build it? Where would they store the trains? Still at Forest Hills? It's already partly hit by the commuter rail (expensive though it is).

I can't really answer for them, but here's a reason why the Kochs tend to get so much more attention than their ideological counterparts.

Also, as far as I'm aware, Democrats outspend Republicans only when you exclude dark money, sums that donors are not subject to disclose. This article seems to explain that:

"Of course, that edge doesn’t take into account contributions to deep-pocketed non-profit groups that don’t disclose their donors. They heavily favored Republicans, with reports showing conservative secret money non-profits outspending liberal ones $127 million to $33 million."
