Why is he getting downvoted for a correct spelling of the word? Benzene is the correct spelling, I don't think OP minds being corrected, if anything it's going to help him write his paper. Lighten up people.

I am confident that it is not, at least in Norwegian. “Benzen” is an aromatic hydrocarbon ring, where as “bensin” essentially translates to gasoline.

How fast is the degradation process happening at? I would assume it is rather slow, but I would hope it is fast enough for commercial applications.

Also what are your hopes for commercial uses other than cleaning oil spills?
