9000 seems high. I spent 3 months and 8300 miles recently and it cost me around $5000 usd total for both of us. Hotel every night and a car that gets around 25-28 mpg

But you save on hotels. I did the math and cost wise it's about the same as a fuel efficient car with hotels. /u/kelmit brought up the cost of flights too which makes more sense with the price.

That actually makes a lot of sense. Didn't think about that. Still a little high but with the rv rental cost I can see that.

I just did an 8300 mile trip. Time goes fast with all the things to see. If time isn't a factor, spend as much as you need. Some cities I'd spend over a week in!
