Do you feel like freelance journalism (particularly in international news & associated areas) is now a realistic long term career, or just something to squeeze as much as you can out of it while you still can?

It's been a rough year for Europe -- migrant crisis, terrorism etc. There's a good chance this might not get any better (if we think migration is bad now, wait until desertification kicks in more) Do you think Europe is going to become nastier in the years to come? Do you think Schengen can survive?
