What measures do you take to protect or advise whistleblowers prior to publishing their stories?

It seems that Snowden is in a situation now that could've been prevented if he'd received better advice before the story went public (about where he should locate himself, for example) - although what role a newspaper does, or should, play in providing advice and protecting a whistleblower is unclear.

Seeing as your father must split his time between four families, are there any other male figures in your life that have had a hand in bringing you up?

Do you view anyone other than your father as a father figure?

There's obviously a difficult line between providing advice to sources and actively stopping them from putting themselves in danger; at the end of the day, they alone can make the decision and it sounds like this is what Snowden did.
