what is your opinion on changing the US tax code to be indexed on inequality, as opposed to income levels (as was discussed by Bob Shiller in "Finance and the Good Society")?

many (namely Nina Munk) have criticized you for being an idealist. Is that title insulting to you at all, or do you feel we could use more idealism in action nowadays?

my interest in economics was greatly influenced by the Price of Civilization; I found many of the arguments clear-headed and resonant. I wonder, though, just how can we as a society address the multifaceted systemic problems that feed off each other? In other words, where would YOU start in the reform efforts of our country?

it is an excellent question, though I ask why exclude financial incentives? I understand (and agree with) the concern about corruption, but perhaps more creative/regulated financing IS the answer. Financial institutions have been the vehicles for massive improvements in social welfare.
