It’s just powerhungry mods seeing a comment they personally don’t like and using the shadowban button instead of the downvote button.

Edit: By shadowban button, I mean “remove” button… which does not notify you that your comment has been deleted and if you look at your comment, it still shows up, but to everyone else, the comment is gone.

Two reasons why:

A) to prevent a loophole in which, instead of being paid traditional income, a lottery/game is set up which virtually guarantees the payee “wins” thus the payment is technically “game winnings” and not subject to tax.

B) the game show likely categorizes the prize as operating loss. For example, if the game show makes $250k from advertising fees per episode, but gives away $80k in prizes to contestants, they will only make $170k in profit. And you (both corporations and individuals) are only responsible for taxes on the PROFIT you make. That $80k of the money the show earned is a “deduction” (meaning it is deducted from the total amount of money earned.) So they won’t pay any taxes on that $80k.

When the show files their taxes, they will fill out a 1099 form saying who they gave the money too and how much. You will get a copy and the IRS will get a copy. (This way the show can’t lie and said they gave away more money than they did.)

In theory, I believe a company can give money as a “gift”. In this situation, they would have to pay a small “gift tax” and they wouldn’t be able to declare the money as a business expense. So obviously they aren’t going to do this.

That’s a fancy way to say “illegal”

Goodbye, you have lost my vote and everyone I know here in Ulster County. And while Ulster County was the one place you actually won in your last campaign, unfortunately Trump’s win has galvanized a lot of the crazy conservatives around here. I’d imagine it’s getting redder.

Why do I need to give up one right to protect my other rights? Why are my options vote Trump’s party to save my right to bear arms or vote liberal to save my right to marry and right to choose?
