Another layman :
I would say that science and scientists are extremely open. There have been numerous modifications and updates to our understanding of the universe and the scientific method itself is the key to this. Like Dr. Aikin said, they started out by assuming the predictions are false and then gathered evidence, changing their position only when enough evidence indicated the contrary. Even then the theory is not an absolute truth, that's why results are published with an X-sigma factor - if i recall correctly this indicates the probability of getting these results if the hypothesis was not true. You have to consider that a big part of what researchers do is try to prove beliefs wrong, if they seem dogmatic about something it's because there has already been great effort to disprove a theory and there's no use in challenging it without new and solid evidence - which seems completely normal to me. As our methods and technology become more sophisticated we sometimes find new evidence to contradict past theories, it always seemed to me that the scientific communities welcome these events more than anybody.

They're running for EP so if they get in they will get a vote in all policies, not only internet-related. It's beyond reasonable to find out their positions on all the things you care about because they will have a say in it.
