As a former female bouncer:

Usually the answer is yes. I worked in teams with big guys like OP. If there was a situation where you could see things were going bad I would be the one going in first with my partner keeping watch. In the 5 years I was doing the job there was not a single occasion where a male caused an issue.

Part of it is down to perception - males find females less threatening (usually) so it is easier for a female to calm them down by talking. If a big male comes over, no matter how great a guy he may be it tends to increase the fight/flight response and make things worse.

A second part of it is everyone looks at the female bouncer and goes 'she must have some amazing skills to be doing this job, and I don't want my arse kicked by a girl so I'll do as she says'.

Hands down any night I would rather deal with a bar of rowdy guys than one full of women.

There are an increasing number of courses to widen access, such as foundation years, for people who wish to study but don't have the 'normal' a-levels. Have a look around if you're interested, it's never too late to learn.
