From personal experience it is often because the investigation can be as uncomfortable and obtrusive as the actual rape if not handled correctly. And considering how horribly trained most cops are to handling rape victims respectfully most of the time it isn't handled correctly. IE in my case the cops repeatedly made offensive comments to me, never processed my rape kit, and "lost" my case somewhere along the way meaning I wasn't able to use the victim fund my state has to assist with medical bills for cost incurred during the investigation which meant I got charged 10k for a rape kit that wasn't ever analyzed

What would be your suggestion to prevent this issue moving forward?
