A co-worker told me this joke:
In East Germany, one of the newspapers had a contest for the best political joke. First prize was 20 years in prison.

Looking at the pictures, I can't believe nobody has pointed out what an adorable kid you were!
Do you ever think in BSL?

Kids can generally sign before they can talk. So signing parents might actually improve language development. Just guessing, though. EDIT: Went back and read more carefully--question already answered.

I don’t know a lot of ASL, but I did notice some similarities. I do know fingerspelling is totally different—American uses only one hand. Once on the metro in Munich once I saw some young guys signing and thought I would try to use my small vocabulary to communicate a little. That didn’t go well. First they looked confused, then they looked vaguely angry, like maybe they thought I was making fun of them. But my continued confusion convinced them that I was just an idiot. LOL
It’s a shame sign isn’t international, sort of a wasted opportunity. On the other hand, there’s little reason to assume that it would be.
There’s a very interesting story about an orphanage in Nicaragua that come up with the town sign language. Check it out sometime if you’re interested

Upvoted his comment to offset dumbass downvotes. I'm not Christian but if it helps OP, good for him.
