My husband switched to part time work during cancer treatments and eventually became unable to work after 6 months He applied for and qualified for SSDI on the first application due to the compassionate allowance program. It is a great program and I have encouraged many people to apply through cancer support group contacts I have.

One issue I have is I found out later that his benefits were substantially reduced as they looked at his income during his part time hours rather than his usual full time work. Is there anything we can do to have his benefits based on his previous full time earnings?

A friend of mine has epileptic seizures which results in slight amnesia. She often struggles to find ways to manage it, finding calendaring obsessively to be the best option but somewhat tedious.

As an example, she got a phone call in her dorm inviting her to go meet someone across campus, a 15 minute walk away. She left her dorm and ended up seizing mid-walk over to meet this person. When she recovered, she had no memory of receiving the call, leaving her room, or where she was going. She explained that it can feel like teleporting - she comes to from a seizure and finds herself in an unexpected place with no idea of how she got there.

So - do you have symptoms like this? Any tips for managing it?

I learned calculus through brute force attacks and was surprised when my kid was successfully able to learn calculus in a fun and engaging way his kindergarten Montessori program. I have a few questions:

  • what specific programs do you recommend for Natural Math learning? Is Montessori (as an example) particularly suited to incorporate Natural math or does it work with other pedagogies?

  • what can I do as a parent to advocate for natural math vs formal math in public schools?

  • is there counseling available for those of us who acquired calculus through formal math methods, to find the joy in our relationship with mathematics again?
