My dad only put his in for speech and show. He ate with bare gums, even tough meat!. In 1920s many folk (young adults) in Scotland would get a 21st birthday gift of getting all their teeth extracted. As any dental work was on private medicine and out of reach of 'working class' . Both my parents had such a 21st birthday gift.
