I'm glad you responded that way about the "civilized" part. A pro-Israeli group just recently ran ads in the DC Metro that made the same sort of assertion. I think the false distinction between civilized and non-civilized is one of the last acceptable forms of bigotry amongst people who usually don't understand what they're talking about.

I just want to thank you for your part in Al Jazeera's incredible reporting. You guys are some of the only people out there doing journalism right. Every other network plops their pasty white "reporter" in front of the camera and apparently that counts as coverage. Al Jazeera goes out and gets incredible, real perspectives and then just steps out of the way to let the story tell itself.

On another note, I know Swat has a significant amount of emerald wealth that is somewhat underdeveloped. Have you done any work on this? It seems like a major industry in such an impoverished area might help with growth out of poverty. On the other hand we all know about conflict diamonds and their effect on Africans.

Are those comments meant to score domestic political points or are they really indicative of anti-US sentiment?
