Hey there! The immigrant experience, especially when it comes to flight to the West, has a lot of shared connections throughout the post-colonial world. I speak from experience as a Cantonese-American mutt whose dad comes from Hong Kong and whose mom comes from Colorado.

Are you familiar with other contemporary accounts of the Iraqi immigrant experience in particular? Living in France these past few years, I've had the pleasure of learning about the fascinating and poignant story of a French national of Iraqi heritage who recounted his family’s experience in the 90s in a miniseries that aired on a popular French/German public television channel. Does his story of a family reckoning with both their Iraqi heritage and the oppression of the Hussein regime resonate with you as an Iraqi-American?
