whats the main purpose of going to mars? is it for human expansion or military advancement? also is mars the best destination for our first mission? was it picked due to distance or actual factual data supporting the ability to be able to harbor life?

once on the surface of the planet "mars" when its all said and done how will the astronauts return home, will the team have backup rocket fuel and launch station or will the team have to go and recon the needed elements to make the fuel or will we send fuel to the team? i think we should not waist the money and resources on the current technology and tap into the field of electromagnetism... also these type of craft using electromagnetism would act like the earth, protecting us from the suns gamma rays.. also if you really want to be pro magnetism..it could maybe produce a low form of gravity depending on the mass of the craft and also on the design.. figure out this then the stars wont be the limit..only the closed mind will be..
