actually, its not just allergies or obesity. breastfeeding has proven to help the baby develop antibodies to prevent sickness, decreasing risk of large numbers of acute and chronic diseases, also lowering chances of respiratory infections, ear infections, bacteremia, meningitis...the list goes on. there is also the benefit that breastfed children brains develop better and have higher IQ. of course, there are plenty of reasons why people don't do so...like say OP for example. it's not unhealthy but there is a reason why medical staff pressure new moms to do it, a lot of them don't realize it can really benefit the child.

there is hope though, maternal hospitals always have a wet nurse registry. it is essential that people remember if they can't breastfeed, if you can afford a wet nurse do it. they keep this registry in case the mother has trouble breastfeeding, and the baby is either born sick or premature.
