Hi Carmen and Mike,

Thanks for doing this AMA. I have been interested in Mexican politics since I took a college course of the topic and visited Oaxaca, which is an amazing area.

How has the Mexican government and police failed the Mexican public in regards to the cartels? Especially with the long-standing rule of the PRI and the way the police is seen as completely corrupted by the cartels?

Another thing I am interested in is the culture surrounding the cartels. Do you guys have any insight into the creation of "narcocorrido" and how that effects the public perception of cartels in Mexico?

I agree that the PRI can't be held responsible for all the problems of the country. I will be on the lookout for your book, just to learn more about narco culture.
