A lot of people (including my own parents) who know nothing at all about radiation tend to spout bullshit taught by their own parents, like how microwaves cause cancer, or that nuclear power is the worst thing since Hitler. Tell your father to learn some more on the subject. It is, after all, freely available to anyone looking for it on the internet.
