Do all the protesters share these demands, more or less?

I don't think many people have industrial-strength goggles just sitting around.

Are you following the foreign news coverage on this (particularly Western outlets, since that's what I'm reading), and if so, is there anything you think they're getting wrong?

I understand that it's not on the same level of violence

No shit. And that's pretty much why.

And anyway: http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/11/19/video-of-police-pepper-spraying-u-c-davis-students-provokes-outrage/?hpw&gwh=9DC9ABB2F1D245161DAD553C66F71C0D http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/higher-education/investigation-calls-for-resignation-follow-spread-of-calif-university-pepper-spray-video/2011/11/20/gIQAcWivdN_story.html http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203699404577048680645518086.html

Edit: My original point is too glib; obviously the newsworthiness is not just because of the level of violence, but (as a start) also because the process in Egypt is one of revolution and subsequent state building, with consequences for Egyptians, Arabs and human history generally. The US protests may be about something substantive but their impact so far is marginal -- and the difficulties they're facing are almost entirely trivial.
