I'm about 12 yrs removed, but was involved with flight controller software for mission control. At that time, we had much stricter process control than code standards. Peer code reviews went through the standards stuff, but that typically focused on proper headers and comments.
But process, oh the process. Lots of steps to get anything done. And testing was usually end-to-end. That was a big effort in itself. Pushing out a change in less than a month was difficult. So to make a new release, it really needed to be something substantial to justify the effort.
I have an appreciation for source control and documentation, and I guess with lives on the line you have to dot the Ts and cross the Is, but I grew wary of not being able to do things logically.
