In 2017 how did you get from Colombia to Panama? I was going south in 1974 and was stopped at the Darien Gap, end of road. I needed a freighter to get to Cartagena. Where in Colombia did you go? Why not Venezuela?

I did a similar, 3 month trip, from California to Venezuela, but in a (of course) VW van. The best part of the trip was the people, especially in rural or isolated beach areas: friendly, helpful, generous, trusting. Venezuela at that time when I was there (1974-1980) was rich and happy. Everyone was too happy, and not very responsible. Colombians were wonderful people.

You raise an extremely important point. I hear over and over how congress is graded as being productive and doing a good job according to the number of bills voted into law. We have so many laws and codes already I actually wish they would work on removing or repealing more laws. The more important factor should be the quality and simplicity of the new laws; not to mention the actual objectives of the new laws; and the extra unrelated stuff (bribes for votes) attached to the new laws.
