Using lab prototypes only available to an intel employee would certainly probably allow him to reach ludicrous clock speeds, but I would think overall performance wouldn't be any better or possibly even significantly worse than the current top-of-the-line retail chip because of the lack of software/driver optimization.

Thanks for the thorough answer! I figured it was a design and engineering trade off, especially with the new fast charging USB-C. My only concern is that I broke the charging port in my Galaxy Nexus a while ago, and if it had wireless charging (like the Nexus 4/5/6) I would have been saved! I guess with the new Nexus Protect I don't have to be as worried about that, though :)

Was it a conscious decision to leave out Qi wireless charging, or was it a cost or design necessity?
Thanks for doing the AMA! I've been a fan ever since I got my Nexus One years ago :)
