My best friend and his girlfriend were in a bad car accident just before this last Christmas. They both had severe brain trauma and were in comas. They had to get brain surgery to reduce swelling. Now they're both awake but they can't speak and can hardly move.

I know you can't KNOW how these are going to turn out, but is there anything you can tell me that would make me feel a little reassured? This guy, my best friend, has been my friend since second grade and we were planning on rooming together in college and it kills me every day not knowing if he'll ever be the same. I've had nightmares about this on a regular basis and have had panic attacks and I just need him to be okay.

That story is incredible! Thank you for sharing it, it makes me feel better. And I visit him every week and I also talk to someone about it, it's still tough but it also helps hearing things like this from reddit. Thank you

Would you recommend joining out of high school or wait until after college and enlist?

Stay as long as possible. Easier said than done but honestly that would mean more and have more of an impact than going home.

Good luck
