I work in the poorest zip code in my city teaching kindergarten and I completely agree with what you say about CCSS. I would already teach them their alphabet and numbers and all the other stuff that is now required. But so much stuff is taken out (like the life cycle!!!) that I have to find ways to introduce it with the time left after "observing sound waves" for a suggested 15 days (among other compelling standards).
