Also there is not too much to do and the villages do not exactly look well organized or tidy. The thing I cannot wrap my head around is the lack of sense for business. There would be great opportunities to launch homestay-like tourism operations in these places (flights from Anchorage and Fairbanks to the villages are surprisingly cheap, so...).

And with that, its attendant problems and inevitable (and perhaps somewhat unpredictable) changes. Same as with inviting in coca-cola and cigs.

I don't guess it's a lack of business sense as just a different worldview. Some people would charge others to come fish in their pond. Others would rather sit in peace and watch the water..... We don't all see, or value things the same.

Great example of what to others are just seemingly benign, "harmless" actions (e.g. war whoops), but to us are reminders of what all happened to many of us as children - or even adults - and can take us back to a bad place. That's hard to explain or properly convey sometimes, because it's always more than that.

Can you tell us more about your heritage, or what you know? Sorry if answered; I haven't seen it yet.

EDIT: Answered below - Mi'kmaq. Thanks!

No, you're just a person who couches certitude in pretentiousness. Nothing more.

You're trying to lecture someone who's experienced directly what you're only trying to guess at, from a position of having no real understanding thereof. Furthermore, you can't even focus on his point, for your single-minded approach to undermining the spirituality it's tied to.

Taking that out of the equation for the moment - since we must - all he was getting across is that the way a person is prepared for a substance, and their experiences during their time on it, can in fact produce different effects/experiences therefrom. That's a rather simple, psychologically sound concept anyone who's even smoked weed can vouch for, but you got so focused on the spiritual underpinnings here you couldn't help but trip right over it on your way to asserting yourself.

Look out everyone - important fuck coming through to clear shit up for the primitives. Make way......

I think you need to worry less about how their societies deal with "drugs" and take a look around at how your own does. Who are the pitiable ones....?

They're quite often not "better than nothing" though, as they tend to confuse, for reasons you've already listed and others. So instead of starting out at zero, you have to work back up to that point, and hope to go from there.

You mentioned the Illini, so I'll give you an example of this in action...... Infamous Illinois alumnus Bob Novak once addressed this matter in one of his nationally syndicated columns. I forget the details, but it's as you'd imagine. But I'll never forget his inclusion of a line regarding this "tradition" at the university, and how it helps to remember an extinct tribe....... an extinct tribe.

The people of this tribal confederacy still very much exist.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hi Lori......

Once I have a design, how do I begin to navigate finding a competent, capable manufacturer for that product on my own? It's incredibly daunting.

I'm trying to do as much on my own as possible (e.g. finding a capable designer, researching patents, etc.), but I also know my limitations. But trying to take that idea to a place that can make it into a functioning reality seems the most difficult to me here and I hope you can shed some light.

Thanks!
