Public domain did not influence the decision. Though that turned out to be quite fortunate.

I originally made the game at a game jam. I knew I wanted music to be a core part of the experience. After thinking for a while, I decided on JS Bach (I'm a big fan). The idea was, if I use "high culture" music, it feels very self-consciously silly when it speeds up, slows down. In short, I use the Bach to help set the right kind of atmosphere.

Also, that kind of baroque music evokes images of European aristocrats having duels and so forth. And yet the Brandenburgs still have a certain dance-y grace to it. I'm really happy with the music choice, I think it balances those multiple considerations very well!

I would have loved to have access to instrument-by-instrument recordings of the Brandenburgs. What I really wanted to do was, assign a different instrument to each player, and then filter out/down that instrument when the player is eliminated. But that was out of scope. Oh well, maybe in the future...

We got nothing against real sports! Some of us are big sports fans. I'm actually a longtime Knicks fan. Yes it's been an unpleasant decade.

And yes, how do we get J.S. Joust at the Olympics?!

I keep asking Ramiro to experiment with different player types (in Hokra). Remember Nintendo Ice Hockey? The fat guy, skinny guy, short guy? Like that, but with squares. It might disrupt the minimalistic feel of the game, though.
