I have some really intelligent friends that have been watching too many youtube videos, and believe the Earth is actually flat, space might be a facade and the world is conspiring to keep the truth hidden from everyone. (One of which have never flown in a plane) what would you guys say to these people to get the point across?

As a kid growing up in Houston I would go to Galveston alot and swim. The worst part of it all was the stench that you ended up with after getting out of the water. We always assumed that it was just the oil from the refineries causing it. Is this true and how are we making sure that we are making it better and not worse these days?
