Using voice chat, it really feels as close to D&D without actually being around a table with the group. My group transitioned from gaming in person to using Roll20 when one of the group moved overseas.

So far we've really enjoyed using it, as the DM, it has a lot of useful features I can use such as:

  • Tables! You can set up tables and randomly roll off them, this can be used for card decks, random tables (e.g. 5th Edition Wild Magic) and even for other stuff like tokens.
  • Tokens! To expand on the above point, you can create a "character sheet" for a creature or NPC and attach a token to it. Using the tables from above, you can set that token to pull from a random table of images (so it's easy to drop monsters in with the same stats with visual differences).
  • Macros! Not only are there custom macros that you can call, most character sheets have a ton of macros built into them. Lets look at the SRD 5th Edition sheet, you can have an attack set up so that it rolls two attacks (advantage and disadvantage respectively), and also rolls damage (+ crit damage if needed), this can be set up to separately roll extra damage (such as sneak attack) which can be used when available.
  • Line of Sight! One of the cooler subscriber features is the ability to set up line of sight within maps, so that players can only see what their characters could realistically see by torch light (a setting on each character).

There are a ton of other features that I haven't covered, but I personally think the above features are the coolest.

Oh yeah I forgot about the jukebox!

I have to agree about the interface. They recently rolled an update out for the interface used in the asset library and it really made our lives easier
