Malaysia is a country. Chinese is a race. Being Chinese doesn't mean we're from China, it just means our ancestors are :)
Malaysians tend to get a tiny bit iffy over this distinction because of all the racism that goes on here. I'm Malaysian Chinese, born and bred, never been to China.
