I really don't think that rickshaws actually pollute that much compared to a standard car. Any details on this? I think India generally is quite an ecology friendly country in general, certainly more than the united states where people drive suvs.

In my neighborhood all Indians burn their trash. In the afternoon there is a thick white smoke that fills the streets. I offered to pay extra for trash collection and recycling but those services are not available.

I think alot of that is down to corruption and negligence. Both big problems in India.

I don't think it is inheriently part of Indian culture though.
