As a Canadian who has tree planted in remote locations as well as travelling through remote places many times, moose are scary because they are aggressive for all the reasons listed here. Also for context, a mooses back often stands 7ft+ tall and they are known in remote regions for crumpling semi truck cabs into pop cans. They are very powerful animals with very powerful charges.

Maybe, but you have to remember that when you do something that could be perceived as an attack on an animal, especially a major predator their response is likely to be to attack violently in any direction as a defense mechanism. When you do that and you are in the path of an animal that is more than a metric ton of muscle and power, your odds are not great.

There was one time when I was tree planting and had my headphones in that I heard faint shouting of my name and I turned around, pulling my headphones out to see a moose over 7ft tall. I stayed very still as to not present any aggression and waited for it to move on. I am no expert and I don't know if that was the right call, but that was my experience.
