This. If I came across this in code I was maintaining I'd curse the designer. There might be some esoteric edge case where this might be needed, but simplicity > elegance 90% of the time in my 20 years experience.

Your relatively low compression V6 engine with (probably) computer controlled spark ignition will not benefit from higher octane. If your owners manual says regular gas then dont waste your money with anything else.
