What you did is pretty much extortion. Their view is "OK, what happens if we don't pay or hire him?". That is the implied threat.

If the patient is engaging in the comission of a crime, most state laws require the therapist to report it.

IE, if your pedo-patient admits to diddling kids during a therapy session, you MUST report it.
