Sometimes those bans expand too. In Tampa there was a bulletin board decorated for LGBT pride month at one of the public libraries. Some crazy moms threw a fit and took it to this office which took it to that bureau and eventually the month was over and the library took it down. I guess feeling like they hadn't won, those moms took it to the City Commission which passed an ordinance effectively banning any gay pride stuff. Hence, the Pride parades, and really anything celebrating gay pride, in the county were banned until this past year.

Related fun facts: the ordinance passed with only one dissenting vote. That one dissenting vote, Castor, now represents her district in Congress. The councilwoman who spearheaded the ban, Ronda Storms, recently lost her election for property appraiser. She also spearheaded the termination of funding for Planned Parenthood in the county as well as the opposition to Castor's ordinance for adding sexual orientation to workplace non-discrimination policy and to change the number of votes necessary to repeal the ban to a supermajority. The repeal passed last year with a unanimous vote.

Double fun fact: Storms, in her ban of the gay pride parades, made sure to note that it would involve gay pride related events with a little g and a little p. The note was specially made to indicate that this meant any gay pride related event or demonstration as Gay Pride would only ban the official and formally titled, Gay Pride parade.
