Did you see much of the new sarcophagus they're building? Did you see much evidence of the original breaking down?

I doubt it. I think good day/night vision is more to do with the various concentrations of rod/cone cells in the retina.

AFAIK the cones in the centre being better for color in daylight, and I think they're denser packed so you only really see minute detail in the centre of where your eye is looking. The rod cells around your peripheral vision are better for night/low light, but can't see color as well. So if you want to see something well at night, look to the side of it so the part of your retina that's better suited to the task is the bit looking at it.
