Follow up question. Are there any serious considerations or proposals to create our own rudimentary Von Neumann probes to at least survey our own Solar System quickly and efficiently? It would seem to me from an engineering stand point we are not to far off from being able to do something simple in this regard, though heavy sampling and analysis instruments might be out of the question for a while.

Lol, having moved from a job like OP into a job sitting in a cubicle doing engineering work for less money with little overtime I concur. Still, I had to make the move to raise my son. Making over $100k a year with no off time doesn't work for a single father.

What is being done, or what could be done to locate possible extraterrestrial artifacts in our own solar system? Possible probes in the asteroid belt or Oort Cloud, etc.
